(January 8, 2003) - Wireless Retail, Inc. (WRI), one of the nation's top five retailers of wireless phones, service plans and other service-based technology products, activated service for more than one million new wireless phone customers in 2002. This 43 percent growth in post-paid, in-store activations contributed to a surge in 2002 revenue to more than $300 million, an increase of 44 percent over the previous year. These positive 2002 results come on the heels of poor fourth quarter sales reports from wireless carriers and retailers and counter analysts' forecasts of a slow down in the sale of wireless phones and service plans. Since its founding in 1994, Wireless Retail has experienced continuous double-digit growth in activations, revenue, and points of distribution. WRI expects these trends to continue in 2003 as the company continues to add new retail partners in its "store-in-a-store" and specialty staffing channels, and signs new agreements with affinity partners in its fast-growing consumer direct channel. In 2002, Wireless Retail signed new agreements with RadioShack and Menards, adding to its previously established partnerships with Sam's Club, Kmart and other national consumer electronics retailers. When the rollout for these programs is complete, Wireless Retail will operate more than 3,500 distribution points throughout the U.S. Leveraging its consumer direct marketing channel has contributed significantly to the company's success. The Call Center currently activates more than 5,000 wireless phones and service plans per month and is projected to reach 10,000 activations per month in 2003.
