Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Red Hat CTO Keynoting Today on The Future of the Virtual Enterprise
Brian Stevens Leads Virtualization Conference & Expo 2007 Line-Up

The Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering of Red Hat, Brian Stevens, will be giving the Virtualization Keynote entitled "The Future of the Virtual Enterprise" at SYS-CON Events' upcoming Virtualization Conference & Expo 2007 West in San Francisco (November 12-13). An industry luminary, Stevens is credited with having pioneered new technologies that contributed to the rise of Linux as an industry-standard operating platform.

The keynote will take place on November 13.

Stevens has over 20 years of enterprise engineering experience in UNIX and Linux technologies, including work as a developer on the first commercial release of the X Window System. Since joining Red Hat's senior management team in 2001, he has been critical to the company's enterprise operating system, storage, and clustering strategies. He now leads the Emerging Technologies group.

In his keynote, Stevens will consider how the astonishingly rapid rise of virtualization technology has made it a vital component of any Enterprise IT strategy today. "The technology is triggering dramatic changes in product offerings and business practices to support virtualized operational models," he notes.

"These breakneck speed developments have lead to a plethora of solutions, with the attendant confusion that typically surrounds fast moving technologies."

In his keynote Stevens will outline current trends in virtualization technologies and examine their potential impact on, and benefits for, future Enterprise IT deployments. Topics will include tradeoffs between open source and proprietary solutions, hardware integration efforts, deployment models, and long-term, high-volume serviceability/security considerations.

thanks.

Are there are any limitations or constraints on moving an existing Web application to a virtual server, and how long does the process of transfer take?

How does RH's work on Windows interoperability around virtualization compare to what Novell is doing via its controversial deal?

Will Brian Stevens be discussing Red Hat's plans for the Libvirt virtualization API to create a VM-agnostic management layer?
