Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

CA's eTrust Antivirus 7.1 Streamlines Security Management

The latest version of eTrust Antivirus, the virus management solution from Computer Associates, includes new features to help customers successfully fend off the onslaught of viruses and worms across large, heterogeneous IT environments.

According to a recent survey by Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), more than 80 percent of security breaches are attributable to inadequate security administration and/or insufficient IT security knowledge. eTrust Antivirus 7.1 addresses these challenges by ensuring that its safeguards are implemented at all potential points of vulnerability, enabling security administrators to guard against new and mutating threats.

New features in this latest version of eTrust Antivirus include:

  • A centralized management console to protect across Windows, NetWare, Macintosh, UNIX and Linux environments
  • Administrative controls for managing IT environments of virtually any size with maximum time- and resource-efficiency
  • More than 60 out-of-the-box reports that keep security managers informed about threat levels, sources of infection, "Top Ten" virus attacks, signature exceptions, and other critical vulnerability indicators
  • Native support for Microsoft 64-bit Windows Server 2003 for Intel and AMD and added support for Network Appliance's Filer storage device
  • Enhanced support for PDA, Macintosh, Linux, zSeries Linux, UNIX and NetWare platforms
  • Auto-discovery of unprotected assets
  • Integration with CA's eTrust Security Command Center, enabling organizations to better assess their real-time security risks and take corrective action
  • Integration with CA's Unicenter for common event notification
  • Integration with CA's BrightStor ARCserve Backup for secure data protection

eTrust Antivirus 7.1 offers antivirus protection at an entry point of $40 per user - including daily, digitally-signed signature updates and 24 x 7 technical support for one year at no additional charge.

CA is showcasing eTrust Antivirus at InfoSecurity EMEA, April 27-29 in London. The English-language version of eTrust Antivirus 7.1 will be generally available on April 30. Local language versions will be available starting in June.
