Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. Sybase iAnywhere Named Number One in Worldwide Mobile Device Management Enterprise Software Market for Sixth Consecutive Year
New report from leading industry analyst firm positions Sybase iAnywhere ahead of 14 competitors in the Mobile Device Management

DUBLIN, Calif., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sybase iAnywhere today announced that in a recent report, Worldwide Mobile Device Management Enterprise 2007-2011 Forecast and 2006 Vendor Shares (IDC # 208771, October 2007), leading IT market research advisory firm IDC recognized Sybase and its iAnywhere subsidiary as the leader in mobile device management enterprise software with higher revenues and market share in a top 15 list that makes up more than three-fourths of the market and is dominated by large systems management vendors, mobility companies, and smaller pure-play MDM vendors.

"In 2007, IDC observed a growing convergence between the markets for mobile device management and mobile security," said Stephen Drake, program director, Mobile Enterprise at IDC. "As mobile enablement increases across organizations, enterprises deploying device management solutions are also looking for more advanced security capabilities such as encryption in addition to the standard device wipe/lock features available in most solutions today."

"We're pleased that Sybase iAnywhere continues to be recognized as the leader in enabling companies to easily secure, manage and access mobile business applications," said Terry Stepien, president, Sybase iAnywhere. "Our customers are confirming IDC's findings that security is a key component of overall mobile device management and they rely on Sybase Information Anywhere suite as their one-stop mobility solution."

IDC forecasted that the worldwide market for MDM enterprise software will grow from $205.7 million in 2006 to $345.0 million in 2011 at a CAGR of 10.9%. As defined by IDC, the Mobile Device Management Enterprise software provides standard features found in all desktop administration solutions, such as maintaining PC hardware and software inventories, performing software distribution, managing antivirus scan files and enabling remote control for systems diagnostics. In addition, MDM Enterprise solutions also include advanced functions that address the needs of mobile and wireless users, such as mobile security, support for offline and over-the-air wireless synchronization, and back up and recovery capabilities.
