The Versata Logic Suite, which includes a development studio for business process and transaction logic, and a server for runtime deployment, is now generally availabile on the BEA WebLogic 8.1 application server.

Working together, Adam explains, the Versata Logic Suite and WebLogic 8.1 "allow a free-flowing state of information and processes that lower barriers and allow IT departments to align directly with business requirements."

With the Versata Logic Suite, he says, business analysts can replace Java programming with a declarative, model-based approach to application development based on business rules and data models.

"This automated approach can promote breakthrough productivity by reducing development time and the need for expensive and error-prone Java programming of service components," he says, adding that the Versata Logic Suite also helps reduce life-cycle costs associated with application updates by allowing change to the underlying business rules.

The combination of both process and transaction logic, Adam claims, allows developers to better utilize service-oriented architectures by linking workflow with services and data.
