The session, entitled "IT for On-Line Diagnostics, e-Prescribing & Bioinformatics," is designed to help policy-makers as they consider all of the many issues and opportunities facing the implementation of e-Prescribing and adoption of bioinformatics. The session will take place on Wednesday, December 5, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. in Room SR 188 of the Russell Senate Office Building at the United States Capitol. As Eclipsys chief medical officer, Dr. Elson works with Eclipsys senior executives to set the company's long-term clinical strategy and short-term priorities for Eclipsys solutions. Dr. Elson has extensive experience with e-Prescribing. In addition to designing and managing one of the first commercial e-Prescribing applications, he spent two years as the medical director at RxHub, a vendor-neutral data exchange utility that has figured prominently in the e-Prescribing landscape. Most recently, Dr. Elson directed the Cleveland CMS e-Prescribing pilot, a year-long project designed to characterize e-Prescribing adoption and workflow in small physician practices, as well as test e-Prescribing transactions being considered for inclusion in the final Medicare e-Prescribing rules. Dr. Elson was a major contributing author to the eHealth Initiative's landmark e-Prescribing Report in 2004. Dr. Elson, a former National Library of Medicine Fellow in Informatics, has a strong academic background and remains on the research faculty at the MetroHealth Center for Healthcare Policy and Research in Cleveland.
