Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

easyMobile.com Strikes Back

STEVENAGE, England, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- From the moment easyMobile.com last Thursday launched it's "no frills" mobile service, the company has been blitzed by accusations from its competitors. Virgin Mobile alone sent out three press releases in the hours after the launch of easyMobile.

"We knew all along that our entry into the UK market would be met by well prepared competitors ready to fight for their market share, but we have been surprised that Virgin Mobile - a very large listed company - would react in a way you can only characterise as panic. Three press releases within one day says it all," says Frank Rasmussen, CEO of easyMobile.com.

"It's obvious that Virgin is under a lot of pressure. They are met by demands from shareholders to increase profitability per customer, and at the same time market forces require Virgin to compete on much more than a funky logo. There's no doubt Virgin is under a lot of pressure, and their reaction to the launch of easyMobile.com clearly shows that Virgin Mobile faces a difficult future," Mr. Rasmussen continues.

"We have fought these battles before, and we have won every time. We are a small but very efficient company fighting against large listed companies marketing departments, assisted by highbrow strategists, who believe it is all about dividing customers into superficial segments, and then spend fortunes paid by customers on fancy high street shops and advertising. This is not our battleground. Instead, we are fighting for each and every customer, and where we offer all customers the best combination of quality, service and price," says Frank Rasmussen, CEO of easyMobile.com and the former founder and CEO of the hugely successful Danish mobile operator Telmore.

"The battle has just commenced. easyMobile.com is a company that spends money wisely to the benefit of our customers, but we did not expect Virgin Mobile to help us save costs. We are amazed that Virgin Mobile has put their vast and expensive departments for marketing and product management to work for easyMobile.com. At easyMobile.com, the opinion of our customers is what matters most, but we do appreciate free advice from our competitors as well. Virgin has, free of charge, told us how to improve, and we have followed their advice. With retrospective effect from our launch date, we have eliminated or reduced most of the charges and fees Virgin Mobile believes will limit our ability to win over Virgin customers. The battle does not stop here - we also increase our introduction offer, by offering 60% discount on our normal prices. As with the elimination of certain charges, this offer is valid effective from the date of our launch. This means that the tariff for all calls, to any UK network at anytime, will be only 6p per minute and only 2p per text/SMS to any UK network at anytime. The offer is valid without any form of contractual commitment, additional top-up, or any other condition".

"Virgin, we can't wait to see your next press release," Frank Rasmussen concludes with a big smile.
