Harris Corporation Introduces Video Networking and Microwave Solution for Global Video Network Operators

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, North Carolina, April 18 /PRNewswire/ --

- Harris combines flagship broadcast and wireless technologies to deliver the industry's most flexible solution for video networking and transport

Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), a leading global provider of wireless equipment and services, today introduced the Harris Video Networking and Microwave solution. This combination of two industry-leading systems -- the NetVX(TM) high-speed, integrated networking system from Harris' Broadcast Communications Division and the TRuepoint(TM) next-generation microwave digital radio system from its Microwave Communications Division -- offers global video network operators such as broadcasters, public safety agencies and other content distributors unprecedented flexibility and reach to seamlessly transport conventional and digital video, audio and data traffic across common carrier and Studio Transmitter Link (STL) environments.

"Using our Video Networking and Microwave Solution, Harris customers can now distribute legacy and emerging digital content via any network or protocol," said Asif Rahman, vice president, product line management for Harris' Microwave Communications Division. "This flexibility gives video network operators the means to cut operational costs, enter new markets quickly and leverage all content regardless of origin. These benefits provide a direct, positive impact on a broadcaster's bottom line and provide easy migration to full digital video networking."

The two components of Harris' Video Networking and Microwave solution -- NetVX and TRuepoint -- are built on the same powerful concept: modular, software-programmable technology designed for versatility and economy. Together, these platforms deliver the means to access new markets, enhance revenues and reduce overall cost of ownership. Additionally, the Harris Video Networking and Microwave Solution allows global video network operators to leverage their existing infrastructure while they migrate to new, digital applications and content.

TRuepoint, which meets FCC Part 101 requirements for common carrier applications and FCC Part 74 requirements for video STL and TSL applications, leads the industry in performance and manageability. TRuepoint also dramatically lowers the cost of ownership by operating at multiple frequencies and supporting multiple applications from a common platform. NetVX delivers a new paradigm in video networking by replacing up to 14 hardwired components previously needed to support only one type of network with an infinitely flexible platform that can handle every packet-based architecture -- ATM, IP and microwave -- as well as satellite.

About TRuepoint(TM)

TRuepoint(TM) leads the wireless backhaul industry in performance and manageability. Its modular, software-selectable architecture is able to seamlessly switch between PDH and SDH applications, enabling service providers to use a universal platform to deliver multiple applications throughout their networks. Designed specifically for point-to-point wireless applications, TRuepoint can deliver service from 4 to 180 Mbps at frequencies ranging from 6 to 38 GHz. In addition, service providers can completely manage TRuepoint deployments remotely with SNMP-based management. Built-in diagnostics and performance management are also available.

About NetVX(TM)

NetVX(TM) is an integrated, high-speed network connectivity solution that can establish links with all packet-based (ATM and IP) services for efficient movement of media between physically disparate locations. Featuring a modular architecture, NetVX can support any contribution and/or distribution application and offers plug-and-play upgrade paths for network growth and evolution.
