We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Nexaweb Expands its Enterprise Web 2.0 and SOA Leadership with HP Governance Interoperability Framework Membership
Nexaweb Enterprise Web Suite Enables Governed RIA, Composite and Enterprise Mashup Application Development

Nexaweb announced its membership to the HP Governance Interoperability Framework (GIF).

GIF provides a collaborative, standards-based approach for publishing, associating, accessing and managing service-oriented architecture (SOA) metadata and business service information across multiple vendors and technologies.

Nexaweb’s membership to HP GIF bridges the gap between SOA and application development, which helps to make it easier to build Web-based business applications using governed services from a central repository. Using Nexaweb’s Enterprise Web Suite, enterprise architects and developers can quickly search and retrieve artifacts and services from the HP SOA Systinet and use those services to build and deploy governed, rich Internet, composite and enterprise mashup applications.

“Organizations realize they must capitalize on their SOA initiatives,” said Bob Buffone, chief architect at Nexaweb. “The time has come to leverage all of the services they’ve created to support their application development efforts. The HP GIF program is important because it provides a governed way to standardize and organize those services. We are further advancing this process by making these services available as part of an integrated development process that ensures business applications automatically conform to business and IT governance rules.”

“As more and more enterprises roll out their service-oriented architecture, it becomes increasingly important that the complete application development stack can work within an SOA governance framework,” said Avrami Tzur, vice president, SOA Software, HP. “Nexaweb’s HP GIF membership and interoperability with HP SOA Systinet make it possible for enterprises to discover and manage policies at both application design-time and runtime. This is a very exciting development because it removes the complexities of consuming governed SOA services and promotes the rapid development of Web-based business applications.”

Complete Application & SOA Governance with Nexaweb
Nexaweb’s Enterprise Web Suite is a complete application development and deployment platform for Web-based business applications. A core component of the suite is Nexaweb Studio, an Integrated Development Environment that enables visual, drag and drop application development and maintenance. Nexaweb Studio interoperates with the HP SOA Systinet through an RSS interface. Using a wizard, developers can retrieve services and place them into Nexaweb Studio’s Service Explorer.

Designed to maintain information about the service and information manager, the Service Explorer removes the need to import WSDL files directly into the workspace. This creates a ‘loose’ coupling between the implementation and the service, making it possible to maintain a centrally-managed repository for all services.

A scenario using Nexaweb’s Enterprise Web Suite to build a governed rich Internet application might include the following steps:

  • The application architect or product manager logs into HP SOA Systinet and creates an application artifact with all the metadata needed to describe the application.
  • They then create a request for consumption on all services that will be required by the application artifact. By creating the contract between an application artifact and the service, solution providers can make accurate impact analysis assessments.
  • Once the request is approved, the application architect or product manager asks the developer to create the application and hands over the requirements.
  • The developer uses Nexaweb Studio to create the application. During the application creation process, Nexaweb Studio queries HP SOA Systinet for the application’s metadata and required services. Nexaweb Studio will import all services and use the metadata about the application to create it properly.
  • Using Nexaweb Studio the developer binds the inputs and outputs of the service execution to the user interface.
  • At runtime Nexaweb Platform makes a request to the HP SOA Systinet to retrieve the endpoints of the services. This abstraction makes it possible to centrally manage all endpoint information. This is important because the endpoints of services may change as a service evolves.
  • The IT administrator managing the application can use the Nexaweb Services console to choose the right implementation. This allows the application to be changed at runtime and removes the need to hardcode service endpoints.
  • The enterprise architect can validate an application’s adherence to Enterprise policies.
  • As a result of Nexaweb’s GIF certification and the companies’ joint product interoperability efforts, HP Systinet has joined Nexaweb’s Web2SOA program.

Nexaweb Web2SOA Ecosystem Program
Many organizations are reaching an inflection point in their SOA initiatives. They have developed an infrastructure and begun deploying services, but are faced with the challenge of how to go the ‘Last Mile’ and deliver these services to end-users. Nexaweb’s Enterprise Web 2.0 & SOA Ecosystem Program is designed to help customers capitalize on their SOA initiatives, leverage existing infrastructure and quickly deliver rich, reliable and governed Enterprise Web 2.0 (EW2.0) and Service-Oriented Business Applications (SOBA) to end-users via the Web - enabling them to finally realize the productivity and ROI promise of SOA across all facets of the organization.
