Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Rackserver Adds Server Management Technology by Peppercon to Servers
Rackserver Adds Server Management Technology by Peppercon to Servers

ZOETERMEER, Netherlands, April 11 /PRNewswire/ --

- eRIC Express card enables full remote management

Rackserver, a provider of hardware systems for server farms and data centers, will add Peppercon's eRIC Express server management cards to its server systems as a standard component. Zwickau, Germany-based Peppercon, a unit of Raritan Computer, develops peripherals for computer systems that are sold worldwide through a large number of OEM partners. Rackserver is the first Dutch company to provide eRIC Express cards with its servers.

The eRIC card enables full remote management, independent of the system's status, including any BIOS state or displaying a blue screen error. In addition, the card makes it possible to switch systems on and off remotely and to perform cold resets. The card provides a virtual floppy drive for remote BIOS updates and for start-ups using an emergency disk, a USB mass storage device or CD/DVD drive. The card is optimized for use in 1U and 2U systems and is used by internet service providers, in data centers and is often embedded inside industrial systems.

eRIC Express delivers optimal security, with all data sent between the card and the user are encoded. For ease of installation, the remote host does not require the use of an extra driver, and the card is fully independent of hardware brand, platform, BIOS and operating system. In addition, no special client software is needed in order to use the management systems, and any browser can be used. The eRIC cards support the IPMI 2.0 standard.

"Remote management offers companies a host of advantages in terms of management convenience, saving time and lower management loads and costs," says Halvard Woei A Sioe, Director of Rackserver. "By providing our systems with Peppercon's eRIC Express cards, we meet clients' needs to profit from these advantages. Peppercon is reputed for its high-quality products, and we are glad that we can offer our clients the latest technology in remote management through this alliance."

"System integrators like Rackserver have a strong link into the market and a comprehensive understanding of today customers needs. The adoption of our technology by Rackserver proves that we have met the needs of a broad user community," says Dr. Christian Pätz, CEO at Peppercon.
