HUNTSVILLE, Ala., April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- During the opening hours of the TEAMS 2005 DOD/NASA/Technology Conference last week, ChangeTools Inc. announced the receipt of a critical patent covering its ZenuSuite small-screen communications solution. According to the Washington D.C. patent law firm Sterne Kessler Goldstein & Fox, the patent protects ChangeTools products for use on any pointer-enabled electronic device, including the various methods, apparatus, and programs for displaying, customizing, and associating software programs with the revolutionary Zenu interface. There are a total of 31 claims. The ChangeTools ZenuSuite is an enabling technology that brings desktop functionality to small screen, handheld devices (like PDAs and cell phones) by enhancing communications, productivity, and usability. ZenuSuite provides an intuitive client-side user interface, server-side command and control, bandwidth-saving connectivity, and wireless security. The simplistic user- interface enables hand-held device users to access information more quickly than with the small keypads of PDAs and cell phones. With its programmable interface, real-time application deployment is a reality. Synchronization between mobile and static computing systems is unnecessary because 'live' data is always available. Frederick Ordway, ChangeTools' CEO, was elated about the patent awards. "This week's announcement opens many doors for further deployment of the ZenuSuite of products - particularly among the DOD, NASA, and high-tech firms represented at this week's conference," Ordway stated. "Receiving this patent validates our mission of streamlining communications and interoperability across platforms and operating systems. The future looks bright for small- screen, hand-held computer users burdened with usability and real-time data access issues," he added. Zenu eliminate many of the obstacles typically associated with small- screen computing. According to Dr. Tom Furness, Founding Director of Seattle- based, Human Interface Technology Laboratory (HIT Lab), at the University of Canterbury, Washington Technology Center, "As computers become less visible and ubiquitous it will be the interface that determines its usability and market acceptance. Zenu is helping to make that a reality." Renowned Professor Clifford Nass of Stanford University, Palo Alto, stated, "The Zenu interface is a superior interface paradigm for transactional tasks, especially those of high complexity or high consequence." As part of the Army's $25 billion Future Combat System and other military initiatives, Zenu could transform communications on the battlefield. The TEAMS 2005 demonstration, developed through a Critical Technology Agreement between the AMRDEC (Army Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center) and ChangeTools, successfully illustrates Zenu's application to VMF and LINK 16 communications - one of many potential applications for Zenu.
