Motorola Strengthens Commitment to Asia-Pacific Region; Appoints Simon Leung as New Regional President

HONG KONG, April 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola, Inc. today announced that Simon Leung, Motorola's senior vice-president, Networks Asia-Pacific, has been promoted to president for Motorola's Asia-Pacific Region. In this role, Leung will lead the regional and country strategies for Motorola across Asia Pacific. His responsibilities include implementing strategic account management across the company's global accounts, executing marketing and sales plans, and strengthening relationships with key constituencies. In addition, Leung will continue to lead Motorola's Networks business.

"Simon brings an exceptional amount of knowledge and experience to his expanded role as Motorola's Asia-Pacific regional president. This position will serve as the model for the direction Motorola is heading in its business strategy, customer focus and governance," said Ed Zander, CEO, Motorola Inc. With over 20,000 employees in the Asia Pacific region, Motorola has been instrumental in driving growth in the communications industry across, mature and emerging markets. Motorola has strong manufacturing, R&D, software development, supply chain and retail presence in the region.

Born in Macau, educated in Hong Kong and Canada, Leung has led Motorola's Networks and Infrastructure business in Asia-Pacific since joining the company in 1999. He has played a significant role in initiating new partnerships to develop CDMA and GSM networks with KDDI in Japan, China Unicom and China Mobile in China, and Hutchison in Hong Kong among others.

Leung is a member of Motorola's Asia Pacific Management Board and Vice- Chairman of Motorola's Joint Venture with Eastcom in Hangzhou, China. Leung will assume the position of Chairman of Motorola China Electronic Limited.

Leung has extensive senior management experience in the high-technology arena, having held senior positions at Brightpoint and Tandem/Compaq Computers. Leung has a bachelor of science, computer science degree from the University of Western Ontario, Canada.
