Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Dana Corporation to Discuss New Technologies, Industry Opportunities at 2005 SAE World Congress

TOLEDO, Ohio, April 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Dana Corporation announced today that several of its executives and engineers will address emerging technologies, as well as challenges facing the auto industry, at the 2005 SAE World Congress, April 11-14, in Detroit.

Chuck Heine, president of technology development at Dana, will participate on a panel focusing on the automotive industry's role in developing opportunities with the U.S. military. Heine will discuss Dana's development work with the military and others to incorporate Permo-Drive Pty Ltd.'s RDS(TM) technology into Dana's Intelligent Hydraulic Drive(TM) system for the U.S. Army's Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles.

"The civilian automotive industry and the military have long benefited from working together. Both are focused on quickly creating safe and reliable vehicle technology, and the sharing of information has resulted in several innovations throughout the years," Heine said. "It is imperative that the auto industry and U.S. government continue collaborating to advance transportation."

Robert Leonardi, director of intellectual property at Dana, will participate on a panel discussing the advantages of licensing technology from both an insider and a customer perspective.

"With companies focusing research budgets on core competencies, businesses need to consider the benefits of licensing technology and other intellectual property on an internal and external level," said Leonardi.

In addition to the panel discussions, Dana scientists and engineers will present 13 technical papers highlighting a variety of technologies, including:

- Dana's new AtmoPlas(TM) heat-treating technology, and its uses in the fields of sintering and carburizing. The AtmoPlas technology uses plasma that is generated and sustained at atmospheric pressure to harness microwave energy, which rapidly heat-treats metals and enables processes and materials not previously possible. - The design, development, and manufacturing of Dana's new all-aluminum spaceframe, which was custom designed for the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and unveiled at this year's North American International Auto Show. Dana engineers reduced the spaceframe mass by more than 30 percent, compared to the original all-steel design.

Dana people design and manufacture products for every major vehicle producer in the world. Dana is focused on being an essential partner to automotive, commercial, and off-highway vehicle customers, which collectively produce more than 60 million vehicles every year. A leading supplier of axle, driveshaft, engine, frame, chassis, and transmission technologies, Dana employs 46,000 people in 28 countries. The company is based in Toledo, Ohio, and reported sales of $9.1 billion in 2004. Dana's Internet address is http://www.dana.com/ .
