Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Navini Networks Brings Portability to 3.5GHz Band; PC Card Opens the Door for the WiMAX Band

PARIS and RICHARDSON, Texas, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Navini Networks, Inc., the leading provider of non-line-of-sight, zero-install(TM) portable wireless broadband technology announced the availability of the PCMCIA card for 3.5 GHz today at the WiMAX Summit in Paris.

"The 3.5GHz spectrum, traditionally known as the fixed wireless spectrum, is becoming key to the broad development and acceptance of mobile broadband wireless," said Karim Taga, Managing Director, Arthur D. Little Austria GmbH. "Navini Networks is the only vendor that has already deployed large scale commercial portable broadband networks in this spectrum. Navini has demonstrated the viability of wireless broadband as a mass market offering."

"The introduction of the PCMCIA card in 3.5GHz will further enhance the value of this spectrum and spur personal broadband network deployments in Europe and elsewhere," added Taga.

"Navini's solution is powered by patented Smart Antennas with adaptive beam forming technology," said Roger Dorf, president and chief executive officer of Navini Networks. "This makes it possible to deliver on all the requirements of a successful personal broadband network: Wide area coverage, indoor zero install(TM) plug-n-play, and broadband data rates."

Navini's PC card will deliver DSL speeds and portability today. "What's the power of this? People have embraced the freedom and 'personal nature' of cell phones and they will now be able to enjoy the same freedom and personal connection to high-speed Internet access."

"Our ongoing commitment to deliver a commercially viable upgrade path to 802.16e has allowed Navini and its customers to redefine wireless broadband from a fixed to a personal offering thus significantly increasing the value of the 3.5GHz spectrum," added Dorf.
