Moving up the stack to PaaS and SaaS the use of virtualisation may, as you say, be less required if you put lots of smarts into your software. A lot of software does not have those smarts and by utalising virtualisation of the layers below can manipulate existing software architectures to have more cloudy attributes through automation (eg run load balancers and deploy more servers automagically). Over time, as new investment in software at...

Sterling Infosystems Selects Sonoa to Open Its SOA Infrastructure to the Cloud
Employment Services Provider Turns to Sonoa's ServiceNet to Address Interoperability

Sonoa Systems announced that Sterling Infosystems has selected its ServiceNet solution to more effectively operate Sterling's SOA infrastructure and ensure enterprise-class security, manageability and performance of these customer-facing Web services.

Sterling Infosystems aggregates publicly and privately available data and puts it into a solution that delivers pre-employment screening, background checking, drug testing, I-9 processing and HR outsourcing services to its customers. To manage information-sensitive profiles across thousands of customers and millions of users, a solution that protects customer data with fine-grained control is crucial. Additionally, Sonoa allows Sterling to free its applications and services to unlock new value by creating new products, services, and revenue streams while increasing interoperability and performance.

"We are constantly looking for more innovative ways to serve our customers, and that starts with guaranteeing that our technologies are secure and run as efficiently as possible," said Michael M. Richardson, CTO of Sterling Infosystems. "Sonoa gives us a critical solution in dramatically opening up our existing SOA environment to the cloud, while ensuring optimal performance and security, with no additional development. Our infrastructure requires the integration of many different data services and networks, which presents unique management challenges. Not only does Sonoa help us overcome those challenges, but it has dramatically increased both our time-to-market performance and agility in the delivery services to our customers."

Sonoa's ServiceNet is a network or virtual appliance designed from the ground up to address the unique challenges of the customer-facing services, providing a single solution for:

  • security: fine-grained access control over large numbers of diverse clients
  • interoperability: bridging different Web services protocols, versions, and security schemes
  • scalability: management of high traffic volumes and ensuring priority service for priority customers

"The fact that Sterling chose Sonoa to manage its technology hub is a major testament to the importance and value of our solution for one of the most innovative, customer-driven HR software organizations in the world," Sonoa President and CEO Chet Kapoor stated. "Customer-facing services introduce new complexities in the cloud, and Sonoa targets the heart of these issues by providing security and visibility to its customers. We are excited to add Sterling to our growing list of customers and look forward to a successful, long-term partnership."

Sterling joins Sonoa's impressive roster of leading companies including InsightsOnDemand, Warner Music, Pfizer, Level 3, JP Morgan Chase, Landslide, Net One and Aizu University.
