Moving up the stack to PaaS and SaaS the use of virtualisation may, as you say, be less required if you put lots of smarts into your software. A lot of software does not have those smarts and by utalising virtualisation of the layers below can manipulate existing software architectures to have more cloudy attributes through automation (eg run load balancers and deploy more servers automagically). Over time, as new investment in software at...

LogLogic Joins VMware Virtualization Technology Alliance Partner Program
LogLogic Also Joins the PCI Security Standards Council

LogLogic has joined the VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) Program and PCI Security Standards Council as part of the company’s commitment to secure and protect corporate and payment cardholder data and information in virtual environments. As a member of the VMware TAP Program, LogLogic will optimize its enterprise-grade LX-ST log management appliance for VMware ESX for security and compliance solutions tailored for VMware virtualized environments. As a participating organization in the PCI Security Standards Council, LogLogic will work with the Council to evolve the PCI Data Security Standard (DSS) and other payment card data protection standards.

As a VMware TAP Program member, LogLogic has integrated its leading logging solution with VMware virtualization to enable customers to standardize and simplify the process of collecting, analyzing, reporting, and alerting on log data files generated across virtual environments. Though log data collection can be carried out manually for virtualization, more stringent security and compliance requirements, the risk of human error and the time required to collect log data generated in large-scale production environments have made automated logging solutions an attractive alternative for IT departments.

“LogLogic can help VMware customers institute better compliance controls by enabling them to track unusual activity and helping them with PCI compliance,” said Nand Mulchandani, senior director of products, VMware. “As with physical infrastructure, proactively monitoring activity logs can help prevent rogue activity and improve the security and uptime of virtualized environments.”

LogLogic’s logging solution allows IT administrators and executives to better monitor privileged user access, identify rogue servers, optimize uptime, and meet industry compliance regulations such as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. As a participating organization for the PCI Security Standards Council, LogLogic will have access to the latest payment card security standards from the council, be able to provide feedback on the standards, and become part of a growing community that now includes more than 450 organizations.

“The PCI Security Standards Council is committed to helping everyone involved in the payment chain protect consumer payment data,” said Bob Russo, General Manager of the PCI Security Standards Council. “By participating in the standards setting process, LogLogic demonstrates they are playing an active part in this important end goal.”

“Businesses cannot afford to be vulnerable when it comes to safeguarding private information. When handling payment card data, meeting PCI compliance to protect customers is non-negotiable, whether in a virtual production environment or a more traditional data center architecture,” said Dominique Levin, executive vice president of Marketing and Strategy for LogLogic. “We see a growing demand for automated and optimized log management capabilities for VMware environments as customers increasingly virtualize more of their servers and implement even higher security levels than they can achieve with their physical infrastructures.”

It seems as though there is a lot of technology to cover regarding security within virtualized environments. I wonder if companies will move toward purchasing an entire package such as an IPS or a single appliance such as a virtual firewall?
