Bluenog Has Rolled Out ICE 4.0
Enterprise content management, RIA portal development environment and business intelligence suited to non-technical users

Bluenog – a nog being a peg that holds a structure together – has rolled out ICE 4.0, or Integrated Collaborative Environment, calling it the industry’s first pre-integrated suite of enterprise content management, RIA portal development environment and business intelligence reportedly suited to non-technical users.
The ECM module came out last summer, the portal in December, and now Bluenog has added BI and wrapped them all together on a single foundation that gives users a single sign-on, a single point of administration and simultaneous deployment.
The company, while not a pure open source operation, leverages Web 2.0 widgetry and open source projects like Cocoon, Slide, Lucene, Eclipse and Apache to create its technology.
It says the suite’s tight integration eliminates application silos, reduces TCO and accelerates application development. It also integrates with other people’s ECM, portal and BI mojo, increasing its flexibility and supports enterprise applications like Oracle Financials, SAP and Banner.
Bluenog’s primary competition is the stuff corporations develop in-house so it flags ICE’s time-to-market and risk reduction.
ICE runs on app servers like Glassfish, JBoss, WebLogic and Tomcat and database servers like DB2, MySQL, Oracle, PostgresSQL and SQL Server. It can be used with J2EE, PHP, PERL and other scripting languages.
ICE is available on a subscription basis, starting at $25,000 per server per year, significantly less than proprietary solutions, Bluenog CEO Suresh Kuppusamy says. Per-server pricing is supposed to be simpler than per-CPU or per-user pricing as far as license administration and capacity planning go.
Customers get the source code and the open source projects get some contributions.
Bluenog is backed by a $4 million A round from Pennsylvania-based NewSpring Ventures, which backed Nutrisystem.
