Moving up the stack to PaaS and SaaS the use of virtualisation may, as you say, be less required if you put lots of smarts into your software. A lot of software does not have those smarts and by utalising virtualisation of the layers below can manipulate existing software architectures to have more cloudy attributes through automation (eg run load balancers and deploy more servers automagically). Over time, as new investment in software at...

Egenera Enters Virtualization Market in Asia Pacific
Continued Momentum In Asia Pacific with the Addition of New Customers Across A Variety of Regions and Sectors

Egenera continued momentum in Asia Pacific with the addition of new customers across a variety of regions and sectors. Egenera makes every data center a reliable dynamic data center through its integrated enterprise data center solutions, powerful PAN Manager software and professional services. Egenera solutions are trusted globally to deliver proven value through agility, reliability and availability.

In the past four quarters, Egenera's business in Asia Pacific has grown by 200 percent, led by strong demand from companies across key sectors, including financial services, communications, public sector, manufacturing, retail and utilities. New customers include:

  • Changjiang Securities
  • China International Capital Corporation
  • Digital China Financial Software
  • Hong Kong Housing Society
  • Korea Foods Industry Association
  • Ministry of Health and Welfare, Korea
  • PetroChina East China Region Sales (PECRS)

"Egenera's ability to help customers build truly reliable dynamic data centers is driving this region's high rate of growth. This isn't a vision 'journey' we're taking customers on, it's real and being delivered every day," said Christine Crandell, executive vice president and CMO. "By offering the industry's most trusted, reliable and high-performance solutions for every enterprise data center, we are providing customers with increased flexibility and agility, whilst helping to reduce IT complexity and costs."

Customers Across Asia Pacific Acclaim PAN Manager
PAN Manager by Egenera is winning praise from new customers throughout the region.

At Digital China Financial Software, a provider of financial IT services, the system architecture was no longer meeting business demands. Li Yang, an IT Support Manager, was part of the team that reviewed market alternatives. "We knew Egenera could help us maximize our IT investment by providing scalable capacity, reducing downtime, and enabling rapid deployment," he said. "Lower TCO was the deciding factor and Egenera met all our requirements."

In the Shanghai region, PECRS is a major local fuel supplier, part of the global giant PetroChina. It has stringent uptime and availability demands and needed a secure and agile platform, now and in the future. "While other companies claimed they could execute virtualization and support our growth, we found their approaches restrictive, complicated and even unsuitable for true resiliency," said Jiang Hongquan, Head of the IT Center at the firm.

At the Hong Kong Housing Society, Peter C.W. Miao, Corporate Information Technology Manager, notes that "Egenera's open architecture leverages both Microsoft Windows and major Linux platforms, allowing HKHS to interoperate with other systems on different platforms."
