Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Wall Street Journal Highlights Blood Management, Strategic Healthcare Group LLC, and Dr. Timothy Hannon

INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wall Street Journal published an article on October 29th describing the benefits of blood management, highlighting Strategic Healthcare Group LLC and featuring quotes from President and founder Dr. Timothy Hannon. The article, Hospitals Seek to Limit Use of Transfusions: New Efforts to Recycle Blood and Treat Anemia Are Aimed at Cutting Costs and Risks, is part of the "The Informed Patient" series written by Laura Landro (available at http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122523396064077821.html). This article focuses on three issues: mounting safety concerns regarding blood transfusions, the efforts such as those of the Joint Commission to bring attention to these issues, and solutions such as the Strategic Blood Management(TM) suite of products that demonstrably reduce transfusions while improving clinical outcomes.

The article quotes Strategic Healthcare Group founder Dr. Hannon regarding the growing concerns that blood is not without risks for patients and should only be used when the benefits outweigh the risks. The article describes the growing number of Strategic Blood Management clients as a result of an expanding partnership between the American Red Cross and Strategic Healthcare Group. Finally, Dr. Hannon describes the success that he has been able to bring about at hospitals resulting in as much as a 30% reduction in transfusions and over $4 million per year in transfusion cost savings.

"We are very pleased to be mentioned prominently in The Wall Street Journal article that continues to bring attention to the need for proper management of blood products," Dr. Hannon said. "The Wall Street Journal should be commended for its leadership in educating its readers and the medical community about blood management as a way to improve the efficiency and quality of care simultaneously."

Rising blood costs, intermittent blood shortages and quality of care concerns are encouraging blood centers and hospitals to find more efficient ways to manage blood products. The Strategic Blood Management(TM) system consists of a suite of products that helps hospitals improve blood utilization while reducing the cost of care. The Strategic Blood Management(TM) system includes BloodStat(TM) blood utilization benchmarking reports, Strategic Blood Management(TM) program implementation and support services, and the Blood eManagement(TM) learning suite.

About Strategic Healthcare Group LLC

Strategic Healthcare Group is the leading provider of blood management products and solutions, partnering with the U.S. blood collection industry and forward thinking healthcare systems. Hospitals using the Strategic Blood Management(TM) system have reported reductions in blood utilization from 11% to 37% with cumulative cost savings in excess of $50 million through the reduction in unnecessary transfusions while improving patient care and increasing patient safety.
