According to The Oregonian, Amazon.com is building a huge $100 million cloud computing data center in Boardman, Oregon in the Port of Morrow, a 9,000 acre industrial park. The
newspaper notes that it is Oregon's cheap energy resources that seem to have attracted first Google - which build a huge data center in The Dalles, Oregon - and now cloud computing rival Amazon.
The Oregonian reports that a 10-megawatt power substation is also being built adjacent to the new data center,
Additionally, note the paper, a $320,000 Oregon Department of Transportation grant was awarded to the port to connect the data center to local utilities. The grant will cover about half the total cost of the additional power infrastructure.
