Webtide and Terracotta Simplify Deployment and Lower Cost of Building Reliable Web Applications
By: Business Wire
Jan. 20, 2009 08:13 AM
Webtide, the main developer of leading open source Java web container Jetty, and Terracotta, a leader in infrastructure software for enterprise Java scalability, today announced a partnership agreement whereby Webtide will maintain the Jetty integration with Terracotta’s clustering solution for Java applications and distribute the integrated solution with the Jetty application server itself to provide a simpler deployment process for end users. The partnership links two rapidly growing Java development communities more closely and provides customers with an integrated, continuously tested solution to seamlessly scale Jetty-based web applications more easily. “This partnership creates great value for both of the Terracotta and Jetty communities. Jetty offers tremendous advantages for the back-end of scaling rich internet applications, with a proven ability to scale to millions of users,” said Adam Lieber, CEO of Webtide. “Terracotta’s approach fits with ours, because we are both seeking to make it easier to efficiently power and scale web applications.” Due to its performance advantages, nimble operational characteristics, and highly efficient Cometd implementation for AJAX, Jetty has become the web container of choice for embedded and web applications in recent years. Terracotta is the pioneer of Network Attached Memory, a new way to share data to achieve reliability and scalability more simply than ever before, with less reliance on expensive databases. Together the two solutions provide customers with a simple path to accelerate the deployment of expressive, high performance, reliable web applications that are easier for customers to scale as demand grows. To ensure the simplest deployment possible, the Terracotta Integration Module (TIM) for Jetty is now available for automated download and installation into Jetty environments through Terracotta’s TIM Update Center. "Our partnership with Webtide confirms our commitment to building solutions that enable development of Java applications using lightweight stacks that have a much smaller database footprint, and therefore lower development and operating costs," said Amit Pandey, CEO of Terracotta. "With Terracotta, Jetty developers have a better way to provide application reliability and scalability, without the need to write complex clustering code themselves.” About Webtide Webtide is a global company that specializes in supporting and serving scalable Web 2.0 applications using Java, Ajax, and Comet.
