Recession Means Fewer Lawyers
Cuts hitting corporate lawyers and dealmakers in Silicon Valley
Jan. 30, 2009 12:45 PM
Saying its fallen prey to the downturn, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, Silicon Valley's star law firm, terminated 45 of its 660 lawyers and 68 staff including secretaries and paralegals on Monday. It's also freezing associate salaries, according to The Recorder, which says that Valley rival Cooley Godward Kronish laid off 52 lawyers and 62 staff last week. The cuts are apparently hitting corporate lawyers and dealmakers, not litigators.
