Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Procedo is First Company to Deliver a Multi-Platform Suite of Applications That Allow Archive Migrations with Complete Chain of Custody

Today, Procedo, a pioneer in data archive migration, unveiled Procedo’s Archive Migration Manager (PAMM) version 3.0, the industry’s first 'any-to-any' data archive migration tool that supports automated data movement between all of the industry’s most popular storage, archive and cloud computing platforms and applications. It supports the seamless migration of critical archives between on-premise storage systems, as well as supports migrating on-premise storage to the cloud. The PAMM suite is a methodology automated by software that maintains the ever-critical chain of custody required to meet the business and regulatory demands on today’s businesses.

Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), a market research firm based in Milford, MA, estimates that organizations will archive over 90,000 petabytes of e-mail and file information in the next three years. Companies that adopted archive solutions a few years ago are now re-evaluating their decisions because some of the initial technologies do not scale well in the face of the growing data management and storage requirements. Until now, companies looking to upgrade or switch vendors have struggled with the time and labor intensive process of moving an archive from one platform to another. “Initial adopters of archiving are realizing the limitations of some of the solutions in the marketplace as archive environments are growing much faster due to the regulatory, legal and business requirements to save more information for longer periods of time,” said Brian Babineau, senior analyst with ESG. “All archive implementations should now incorporate data migrations solutions such as Procedo’s PAMM so customers can always take advantage of the latest and greatest technology in the marketplace without fear of being held captive by their current platform.”

Procedo’s PAMM application is automated, scalable, flexible, and provides full Chain of Custody for fast, reliable data migration. The latest version of PAMM includes a centralized management and reporting system to make data migration management effortless and reduces complexity by providing IT with enhanced reporting and analysis, giving granular reporting on the progress of migrations and when jobs are completed. PAMM’s true clustering capability is also included to reduce system bottlenecks and eliminate points of failure during the migration process. These deliver a fully integrated suite designed to free an organization’s data while providing the data integrity required by today’s business world in an electronic discovery event.

PAMM empowers users to optimize primary e-mail archive and WORM infrastructures by automatically migrating data to more robust systems based on user-defined policies. Messages and attachments that are moved maintain full original message content and digital signature as they are migrated. PAMM enables support for applications and storage platforms through the use of Procedo’s innovative:

Archive Transfer Modules (ATMs): ATMs are application-specific modules that perform the extraction and ingestion processes. Each source and destination utilizes its own ATM for seamless integration to existing infrastructures.

PAMM Core: Core application that uses a SQL Server database to track all relevant object information and maintain Chain of Custody between all supported environments.

PAMM supports a premier list of storage and application partner platforms, including: Symantec Enterprise Vault, NetApp, EMC EmailXtender and Centera, Dell, Hitachi Content Archive Platform, Autonomy Corp/Zantaz EAS, Mimosa Nearpoint, CommVault , HP's Integrated Archive Platform and NTFS based file systems. PAMM also features on-premise data archive migrations to the cloud in partnership with services offered by LiveOffice and Dell's MessageOne. Historical tape recovery and .PST migrations are additionally supported by Procedo’s ATMs.

“SaaS email archiving is quickly becoming the solution of choice for companies looking to quickly and effectively manage their e-discovery, compliance and mailbox management needs,” said Nick Mehta, CEO, LiveOffice. “With so many of our clients migrating from their old on-premise archiving systems to our cloud-based model, we needed a partner that could help us reliably move legacy emails residing on old infrastructure to the LiveOffice data centers, while maintaining Chain of Custody. After an extensive search, Procedo was the clear choice, both from a technology and service standpoint. We are confident that the latest version of PAMM will be an invaluable migration tool for many of our current and future clients.”

“Due to explosive growth of e-mail data retention requirements and evolving business and regulatory requirements, companies are reconsidering their approach to business critical archiving solutions,” said Joseph Kvidera, CEO, Procedo. “Procedo’s knowledge and experience in this market has afforded us the ability to unveil PAMM Suite to deliver on our promise as a market innovator of data archive migrations to move data forward.”

Comments from Customers and Partners

PAMM is truly an any-to-any migration solution, making Procedo an important partner to all of the leading storage and archiving platform and application companies. Procedo has a solid track record of providing partner companies with a safe and automated way to move data off a competitor’s old system and onto their own.

“Today’s archiving technology has greatly improved with increased functionality and usability, and customers are focused now not just building a solution for email but providing a platform to archive and consolidate all forms of unstructured information,” said Simon Jelley, Senior Director, Enterprise Vault Product Management, Symantec. “Procedo helps address key challenges in customers wanting to migrate from their outdated and niche solutions to Symantec Enterprise Vault and maintain access to their existing archived data.”

“Storage and discovery savings in managing unstructured information are priorities for our corporate IT department,” said Daniel Abrams, Engineer IV, Corporate Architecture Services at VeriSign. "When we decided to migrate to Symantec Enterprise Vault on a NetApp FAS platform, we were faced with moving 7TBs of data. We were impressed with Procedo’s hands-on approach and expertise in working with heterogeneous environments. Ultimately Procedo saved us time and money and gave us the ability to quickly and safely move data from one platform to another."

“Customers are now realizing that the storage infrastructure they deployed for archive and compliance purposes often no longer meet the demands for efficiency, simplicity, scalability and protection required by growing archive volumes. With some archives growing at more than 50% a year, customers regularly ask us for a tool and methodology to migrate their data onto NetApp platforms in order to meet new demands,” said Tim Russell, Vice President and General Manager of Archiving, Compliance, Storage Efficiency, and Security with NetApp. “With Procedo, NetApp now offers a service to efficiently migrate customers in a manner that meets the strictest customer requirements.”

“Mimosa provides companies with the most comprehensive and advanced content archiving platform for email, files, and instant messages stored in a unified repository,” said T.M. Ravi, CEO, Mimosa Systems. “Thanks to our partnership with Procedo, our enterprise customers can safely migrate away from their previous archiving solutions that simply can no longer deliver. Procedo’s PAMM as a part of Mimosa’s complete solution has been extremely instrumental in competitive wins.”

Pricing and Availability

Procedo will start shipping PAMM 3.0 on February 16th 2009. List pricing starts at $5000 per TB of migrated data.
