Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

MedImpact Partners with Microsoft to Transform the Consumer Health Care Experience

MedImpact Healthcare Systems, Inc., today announced they are partnering with Microsoft Corp. to transform the health care experience, making it easier for consumers to securely store, access and share their health information using Microsoft HealthVault.

HealthVault enables consumers to store their individual health data or their whole family’s health records—in one secure location. Consumers have complete control over their information and can enable others to view their health data. Using HealthVault, consumers can access medical, pharmacy, physician, health plan, lab data, dental, radiology, and fitness data and can even upload information from medical devices such as heart rate monitors.

Members who receive pharmacy benefits through MedImpact will have the ability to easily view their prescription information integrated with other health information. Putting this access at the consumer’s fingertips will help streamline health care delivery and will empower consumers to make informed and timely choices. These services are expected to be available in the summer of 2009.

“MedImpact’s adoption of web-based health care will help individuals become more actively engaged in managing their health, and the health of their family members,” said Dr. James Mault, of Microsoft’s Health Solutions Group. He added that, “MedImpact and HealthVault represent a new generation of consumer-centric health care services that can empower individuals and their health providers to make informed and cost-effective decisions about care and wellness.”

As members of the Center for Health Transformation (CHT), MedImpact and Microsoft are committed to making it easier for consumers to proactively manage their health. Health plans, health care providers, pharmacies, and employers all benefit when consumers have the information they need to manage their health. For example, consumers with a chronic condition such as hypertension can share real-time blood pressure readings which streamlines communication and reduces overall cost—so that everyone in the health care continuum benefits.

“We are excited to partner with Microsoft to put the power of information at the fingertips of the consumer. This transformation will bring even greater benefits and value to our clients and to the members they serve,” said Dale Brown, senior vice president at MedImpact.
