EC Extends Microsoft Deadline
No reason was given for the delay
Mar. 13, 2009 04:30 PM
Microsoft was supposed to submit its rebuttal the other day to the European Commission's January antitrust finding that bundling the Internet Explorer browser with the Windows operating system is anti-competitive.
Instead it asked for and got a deadline extension until April 21. Microsoft will probably ask for a hearing too. No reason was given for the delay.
Part of Microsoft's position will likely be the fact that it's planning to make using IE optional in the upcoming Windows 7.
Microsoft's share of the browser market in Europe is only said to be around 60%; and Windows users can already install alternate browsers if they like.
