Broadcast International to Debut CE-1000 at IPTV World Forum

Broadcast International, Inc. (OTCBB: BCST) (“BI”) announced today that it will demonstrate the latest version of its patented CodecSys™ CE-1000 multi-channel H.264 / MPEG-4 Part 10 / AVC encoder at the IPTV World Forum on March 25-27 in London.

The CE-1000 is designed for broadcasters who require high channel density and is specifically well suited for IPTV, satellite and Telco service providers, delivering a very cost-effective way to solve their bandwidth crisis. The CE-1000 is a software-based encoder featuring an industry standard, highly efficient, fully compliant H.264 codec and can receive live input through a capture board or encode from a file source. It encodes both audio and video and muxes it using industry standard MPEG 2 Transport Stream and delivers the stream over IP. Fourteen channels of high quality HD video are possible in a single BladeSystem.

“The demand for more bandwidth is not going to go away as evidenced by industry experts declaring that the top technology concern for 2009 will be video compression,” said Rod Tiede, president and CEO of Broadcast International. “We’re already in a bandwidth crisis and with the growing popularity of online videos and people relying on the Internet to watch their favorite television programs the crisis is only going to intensify.”

Broadcast International’s CodecSys video compression software is based on an open software architecture that runs on off the shelf hardware. With CodecSys, the system and codecs can be upgraded and added through simple, cost-effective software downloads while other commercial solutions require costly, full hardware replacement. In addition to its ability to greatly reduce bandwidth requirements, the CE-1000 is very flexible and highly scalable. Upgrades and improvements can be loaded onto the hardware platform without the need to purchase new equipment, providing a dramatic cost savings to customers.

The software is also designed to accommodate the latest standards, such as the next generations of H.264, as well as new specialized codecs as they come onto the market. The CE-1000 video encoder is currently installed in locations in Europe as well as partner labs in the United States, Asia and Europe.

“With the growing popularity of IPTV in Europe and around the world, we are excited to demonstrate the CE-1000’s full capabilities at this year’s IPTV World Forum,” said Tiede. “The CE-1000 offers the industry’s highest level of compression and provides a 'future-proof' solution for customers in the dynamic video market.”
