Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Windows 7 To Launch Publicly May 5
Microsoft's Brandon LeBlanc explains on the Windows Team Blog

The official Release Candidate of Windows 7 will be available for download by MSDN and TechNet subscribers from April 30, according to the Windows Team Blog, but public availability won't begin till May 5th.

"On behalf of everyone here, I would to thank all of our beta testers for helping us get to this point," wrote Microsoft's Brandon LeBlanc in a post last week, "You guys have been busy. At the peak of the feedback cycle, we were receiving a “Send Feedback” report every 15 seconds for an entire week. Since then, the engineering team has been busy analyzing the feedback, fixing bugs, and working hard to improve the overall experience."

The browser that ships in Windows 7, of course, is Internet Explorer 8, the browser that ships in Windows 7. And IE8 is the topic of just one of the dozen of forward-looking sessions at this June's 7th International AJAX World RIA Conference & Expo, being held in The Roosevelt Hotel, New York City, on June 22-23, 2009.

The conference is co-located with the 15th International SOA World Conference & Expo.

The IE8 session due to be given June 22-23 in NYC is by Robert Boedigheimer works for Schwans Shared Services, LLC providing business solutions with web technologies and runs Robert Boedigheimer Consulting, LLC.

Called "Internet Explorer 8 and its Impact on Your Web Sites," the session is aimed at helping delegates ensure that their sites don't break when IE8 ship. Attending delegates will be able to learn which current practices will need to change and how this will affect development techniques and existing sites. Boedigheimer will also review tools that will be built into the browser to help developers debug and create web pages.

The Conference Theme is "Driving Profitability Through the User Experience" and Boedigheimer's session is one of dozens of sessions and industry panels that explore and explain how simple, rich interfaces that don’t get in the way of the user's experience but enhance it are increasingly becoming tied to value creation, profitability and staying-power in the marketplace.

IT professionals of every stripe will come away from NYC with an enhanced understanding of what it takes to effectively evaluate, design and build on-line experiences that are compelling, usable, and profitable. Our organizing principle is that attending delegates should leave the Conference with abundant resources, ideas and examples they can apply immediately to leveraging the technologies they see on display and hear under discussion.
