JCP Program Unveils 2009 Star Spec Leads
Program recognizes Spec Leads who consistently showcase their value

The Java Community Process (JCP) Program Management Office (PMO) has announced the 2009 Star Spec Leads, distinguishing top Spec Lead performance and rewarding exceptional service to the community. The Star Spec Leads Program recognizes JCP Spec Leads who consistently showcase their value through high quality specifications and establishing best practices, including transparency and mentoring others.

The JCP PMO introduced the Spec Leads incentive program for the first time at the 2005 JavaOne Conference and modified the program in 2008. JCP Star Spec Leads are selected based on feedback from fellow Spec Leads, Expert Group members, Executive Committee members, JCP Community members and PMO staff.

The newest Star Spec Leads are:

Ed Burns of Sun Microsystems
Ed Burns has been at Sun Microsystems since 1997 and has worked on a variety of Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) and Java Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE) projects in roles ranging from individual contributor to team leader to architect. Ed got involved with the JCP program when he became co-Spec Lead of Java Specification Request (JSR) 127, JavaServer Faces (JSF) in 2002. He continued in that role with JSR 252, JSF 1.2. He also served as an Expert for JSR 154, Java Servlet 2.4 Specification; JSR 245, JavaServer Pages 2.1; JSR 273, Design-Time Application Program Interface (API) for JavaBeans JBDT; and JSR 276, Design-Time Metadata for JSF Components. Ed utilizes a variety of transparency methods and operates his JSR 314 Expert Group communications through a public alias.

Mike Milikich of Motorola
As Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME) Technology Development Manager for Motorola Mobile Devices, Mike Milikich is focused on Java ME standards, implementations, tools and Technology Compatibility Kits (TCKs). Mike began participating in the JCP program in 2001. Since then he has served in various ways, including representing Motorola on the Java ME Executive Committee and serving as the Maintenance Lead for JSR 37, Mobile Information Device Profile for the Java ME Platform (MIDP1) and JSR 118, MIDP2. Mike also contributed as an Expert to JSR 180, SIP API; JSR 248, Mobile Service Architecture (MSA); JSR 249, MSA Advanced; and JSR 253, Mobile Telephony API (MTA). In addition, he is the Spec Lead for JSR 271, MIDP3 and JSR 307, Network Mobility and Mobile Data API. Mike operates his JSRs in an open manner with a very large Expert Group and utilizes an online discussion forum, issue tracker and document repository.

David Nuescheler of Day Software
David Nuescheler is the chief technology officer (CTO) of Day Software and has been instrumental in growing the company from a small multimedia agency to a global content management solution company. In 1999, David began working with Java technology when the decision was first made to adopt the Java platform for Day Software's entire suite of products. Since then, he has worked primarily on server-side web projects as a solution and product architect. David joined the JCP program in 2001, and served as Spec Lead for JSR 170, Content Repository for Java technology API, and 283, Content Repository for Java Technology API Version 2.0. He encourages adoption and feedback to his JSRs through making frequent public drafts available to the public and developing open source implementations of the specification.
