Dell Earns Top Spot in Technology Business Research's Inaugural Corporate Sustainability Index Benchmark Report

HAMPTON, NH -- (Marketwire) -- 05/20/09 -- Capturing environmental metrics from 40 companies within the computer hardware, software, professional services, and network and telecommunications sectors, TBR is proud to announce that Dell took the lead position in its Global Business Sustainability Service's inaugural Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) Benchmark Report for 2009. With an overall score of 317.9, Dell bested firms such as British Telecom (265.2), IBM (258.5), and Hewlett-Packard (255.1), scoring particularly well in areas of renewable energy, recycling and embedded sustainability strategy. Dell's environmental commitments are bearing fruit and elevating the company to the position of most environmentally progressive IT vendor in the world for 2008.

In addition to its overall top finish, Dell took the lead among Computing Sector vendors. Other Sector leaders include British Telecom (265.2) in Telecom/Networking, Microsoft (168.0) in Software and Wipro (131.0) in Professional Services.

TBR's Brad Allen, director of the Global Business Sustainability Service, stated that "CSI leadership underscores a corporation's commitment to sustainability in its business models and practices. By embedding sustainability into the core business fabric, organizations gain competitive advantage and environmental equity, contributing to overall corporate value."

The CSI report provides data and details on a wide array of sustainability metrics, informing IT vendors, customers, employees and financial markets of competitive sustainability initiatives, market trends and industry issues. For the first time critical performance metrics including emissions, energy, renewable energy, annualized emission reductions, water utilization, recycling rates, public environmental commitments, etc., are incorporated into a single, comprehensive view of vendor sustainability activities and environmental strategies.

The complete publication analyzing the performance of 40 companies across four IT sectors and scoring more than 100 discrete sustainability factors and metrics covering energy, emissions, recycling and transparency will be available June 1, 2009.

ABOUT TBR'S GLOBAL BUSINESS SUSTAINABILITY SERVICE

TBR established the Global Business Sustainability Service (GBSS) to assist IT vendors and their stakeholders in evaluating areas of environmental leadership and deficiency in companies with a similar industry focus. TBR's GBSS analytical staff identified current internal and external sustainability innovations and initiatives that shape the competitive environment of the world's largest IT vendors. GBSS research components include the Corporate Sustainability Index benchmark report (CSI), the Customer Sustainability Behavioral Survey (CSBS), Sustainability Spotlight Reports (SSR) and Analyst Inquiry Time (AIT).

TBR designed the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) to provide a holistic benchmarking methodology that allows for quantitative comparisons between vendors and reveals annual progress across a variety of sustainability initiatives.

The Customer Sustainability Behavioral Survey (CSBS) focuses on the importance of vendor sustainability activities and how they influence adoption and purchase decisions in the global consumer, SMB and enterprise markets. Results of CSBS will be delivered in late fall 2009.

The Sustainability Spotlight Reports (SSR) are biweekly reports incorporating the latest vendor sustainability news, governmental regulatory activities and analytical content. These reports are designed to insure that subscribers are able to track and understand the implications associated with a broad range of industry changes.

Finally, for those issues and questions that invariably crop up in an area as complex as sustainability, Analyst Inquiry Time (AIT) is offered as a fundamental part of the GBSS program.

The Global Business Sustainability Service is available on an annual subscription basis.
