litl_phil wrote: While it's nice that Google and Acer share the vision of cloud-based computing, it's also worth noting that we at litl already have a webbook on the market (available at litl.com) that runs our own cloud-based OS. Unlike Chrome, litlOS is focused on creating a new and better web experience for the home, so we don't have the usual browser interface, we have our own innovative UI. In conjunction with easel mode (litl's inverted-V position) and our growing cohort of litl channels (special apps t...

Cloud Computing Expo Europe Keynote on SYS-CON.TV
By the end of the summer the cloud is going to be everywhere, predicts Roman Stanek

By the end of the summer the cloud is going to be everywhere, predicts Good Data CEO & industry veteran Roman Stanek.

"What is happening to computing today is a revolution, the biggest discontinuity I've experienced in the last twenty years of my career..." said keynote speaker Roman Stanek last month in Prague, the Czech Republic, as he gave the opening keynote at Cloud Computing Expo Europe 2009.

By the end of the summer the cloud is going to be everywhere, Stanek predicted. "It's going to be very disruptive and we still don't know what's ahead of us."

So everything is going to be about Cloud. But is cloud computing enabling the construction of a completely new technology stack, or is it just moving the existing technology stack into the cloud?

"I believe it is a new technology stack. I see a level of innovation in the cloud that I haven't see for a long time," said Stanek.

He looked next at why businesses are choosing to move to the cloud, and what it means in terms of security and control? Compared to what we have today, in security terms, it's comparable, Stanek contends, noting that 1,200 notebooks are lost or stolen at Los Angeles airport in just a week....and 65% of notebooks do not have any kind of data protection in place.

Plenty of companies are beginning to provide control of the Cloud, Stanek noted, making it a safe place for SMBs to store their data - although of course appropriate Cloud providers need choosing with care.

Cloud computing, in short, is an Enterprise IT game changer. Technology and innovation now matter again.
